AIR is seeking a Researcher who will serve as a member of AIR's math education team, providing support on a number of different projects related to improving the quality of math teaching and learning in K-12 settings. The work straddles both research and practice, and the applicant should be eager to work on a variety of projects (from randomized controlled trials to case studies to providing professional development to teachers). The ideal applicant has an appreciation for rigorous research, is committed to producing high quality work, is curious and humble about the complexities of teaching and learning, is comfortable communicating with educators from all types of school contexts, and thrives working in a team of like-minded, hard-working, passionate colleagues. The position may be located in our Washington, D.C. or Waltham, MA offices.

Responsibilities: 1. Assist in the design and planning of qualitative and quantitative data collection instruments including interview protocols, focus group protocols, and surveys 2. Coordinate and conduct field-based, (district and/or school level) data collection activities including interviews, structured observations, focus groups, and collection of specified documents 3. Code and analyze data from surveys, interviews, observations-including video recordings of math lessons-and extant data using the appropriate analysis tools 4. Prepare documents, portions of reports, briefs, charts, and graphs that describe and interpret findings of analyses 5. Provide math content expertise to the analysis of curricular and professional development materials 6. Contribute to the development of math professional development and coaching activities for K-12 teachers. 7. Deliver math professional development and coaching activities for K-12 teachers, both in person and virtually. 8. Communicate effectively, orally, and in writing with clients, site-based staff, and other evaluation stakeholders

Bachelor's degree in mathematics or mathematics education plus a minimum of 1-3 years secondary mathematics teaching experience. Master's Degree in mathematics, mathematics education or social sciences with 1-3 years of related experience in the following: 1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of research principles and research design 2. Demonstrated knowledge of K-12 education 3. Demonstrated familiarity with the organization of data, including database structure, record layouts, and file structure4. Strong written and verbal communication skills 5. Ability to work with a variety of education stakeholders and audiences 6. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team 7. Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite products*LI-KS1
