Works as part of a team to conduct routine procedures required for vivarium operation. Primary responsibilities include animal care and husbandry, sanitization and preparation of animal housing equipment, including operation of large bulk rack washers and autoclaves. Must demonstrate strong communication skills and be able to work efficiently in individual and team settings.
o Performs daily animal husbandry tasks for a variety of species, routine facility operations tasks, identifies and reports any abnormal findings, maintains the highest standards of animal care and welfare, and communicates progress appropriately to manager.
o Maintains daily record keeping for animals and environment.
o Operates and/or uses sanitization and sterilization equipment.
o Performs preventative maintenance and maintains service records on racks and caging equipment.
o Responsible for the process of animal supply, and receives/stores materials and supplies.
o Manages self and participates in the performance management process including providing performance feedback and coaching.
o Maintains awareness of advances and developments in laboratory animal science through continued professional development.
o Ensures own work is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health and Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards.
o Is required to work flexibly across different areas and participate in the provision of weekend, holiday and overtime hours support.
o Has core technical skills and supports in:vivo research projects. May be responsible for a small production colony or breeding program.
o Responsibilities also include more technical procedures such as animal identification, collecting biological samples, assisting scientists with requirements related to their research animals and administering medicines/compounds as directed by and at the discretion of management.
