Emerson Colonial Theatre is the longest continually operating theatre in Boston, MA. In its storied history, the theatre has debuted such seminal Broadway shows as Anything Goes, Porgy and Bess, Oklahoma!, Born Yesterday, Annie Get Your Gun, Follies, A Little Night Music, Grand Hotel, and La Cage aux Folles, among others. Reviving a great theatrical tradition, the newly-restored venue will officially re-open its doors in 2018 with the pre-Broadway World Premiere of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. An exciting opportunity has arisen within our theatre management office for a creative thinker and conscientious executor on the marketing and communication team.

Position summary:

We are looking for a detail-oriented, proactive and confident individual to work in a fast-paced, growing environment at an exciting time in the theatre’s trajectory. The ideal candidate will have exceptional written and verbal skills, the ability to nimbly pivot direction between tasks, a foundation in knowledge of the theatrical/live entertainment industry, familiarity with social media trends and tactics, as well as the drive to develop strategy and long-term marketing and media initiatives. A design background is a plus but not an essential requirement. This will be a public and media-facing position, and exceptional interpersonal communication is imperative to this role. This position reports directly to the Director of Marketing and Communication and will actively contribute to the planning and execution of the Colonial’s brand, as well as the positioning of its programming throughout the community.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

General Marketing
Prepare weekly or as-needed reporting on marketing and press initiatives.
Collaborates with media contacts and other vendors, processing invoices and facilitating communication as needed.
Obtain and distribute agreements, affidavits, tear sheets, contracts and other administrative communications/documents.
Assist with actualizing marketing budgets for settlement completion.
Update website and all digital communication on premises, through existing maintenance software, with shows, information and other messaging.
Manage weekly email campaigns, daily pre- and post-trip blasts and other blasts as needed.
Work with Director and specific shows in acquiring ad materials and collateral needed to execute customized advertising and marketing campaigns.
Localize and work with graphic design team to develop ad materials specific to market.
Manage vendor communication and delivery of materials as needed.
Social Media
Create, manage and execute approved social content across all digital platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Maintain social content calendar and obtain necessary approvals.
Manage guest engagement through social channels to provide premium experience at the venue, even before they arrive.
Collaborate on the development of unique content separate and apart from show materials to build following, subsequently expanding reach.
Manage press, photographers and other guests at specific scheduled performances and/or events.
Escort talent to press opportunities as needed.
Draft and/or proof press releases before distribution.
Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

· Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in a theatre or live performance venue.

· Experience in marketing and/or press strategy.

· An understanding and working knowledge of the live entertainment industry.

· Demonstrated ability to multi-task, troubleshoot and meet deadlines under pressure.

· Excellent Computer skills are essential: Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Graphic Design experience a bonus.

· Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays when required.
